Apdejt

It’s been a while, I know. I was working on a lot of stuff. And yet, I mainly have to show you beads and not so much final products.
I participated in 3 swaps. You’ve seen one here.
You’ve seen the 2nd one here. Oh, not fair, you say? Ok, ok, here it is. Now we have to wait to see what Christina did out of it.

for Christina

Poslala sem tudi osmomarčevski swap pri IMU. Dobila ga je Sandra. Jaz sem ga dobila od Maje. I also sent out the March 8th swap at the IMU. I sent it to Sandra. I got mine from Maja K.

ogrlica in uhani

Ile bo perle oblekla v drobne miyuki perlice in nedvomno bo končni učinek famozen. Čeprav sem imela z rdečimi kosi nemalo težav. We also arranged a swap with my partner Ile from the last year’s BSPS. She got her mail yesterday. I sent her cabochons only – she’s a bead weaver and I trust her that the final makings will be astonishing.

I have one more thing to show, the rest that I prepared for the fairs are not photographed yet. This is a pendant for my dear friend Sidonija – she’s the Concert Master of the Zagreb Philharmonics.

01

A kakšna sejma?
Oh, what fairs you ask? You’re welcome to come see me tomorrow at the Ustvarjalni Ray in Koper’s Planet Tuš. And on Sunday on the 1st FairArt at the Conservatorium for music and ballet in Ljubljana.

Februarsko branje

Člani Dežele me opazujejo, ko vzamem skodelo in jo napolnim z obaro.

Zakaj in zato: čisto navadno mašilo.

Potovalnik

Jelka Godec Schmidt, Potovalnik

Sprehod skozi fantazijske vzporedne svetove v besedi in sliki naše znane ilustratorke. Namenjeno osnovnošolcem. Priporočam!

Crystal Rain

Tobias Buckell, Crystal Rain, Ragamuffin

»Most of the ragamuffin already dead, trying to stop the Tetol. So the ragamuffin Brung thought hard for a real-real long time. Then he crack the sky in explosions and killed all the magic machine the Tetol was using, and destroy the worm's holes. But he also kill all the magic machine our old-father in Nanagada use.«

Kar zanimivo.

The Twelve

Justin Cronin, The Twelve

»He discarded them without ceremony. His Many, millions-fold. He called them together from all the hidden places and said to them: Die. Dawn was reaching its red-fingered hand over the horizon. They pointed their faces blindly toward it. They showed no hesitation; all that he commanded, so did they. The sun was moving toward them like a blade of light over the earth. Lie down, my sons and daughters; lie down in the sun and die.«

Drugi del odlične vampirske trilogije (prvega, The Passage, sem bral že kar dosti nazaj, tretjega bom pa čakal vsaj še kakšno leto).

The Particle at the End of the Universe

Sean Carroll, The Particle at the End of the Universe

»Experiments have demonstrated that the full brunt of the LHC beam would be sufficient to melt a ton of copper. You certainly don’t want it careening randomly into your finely tuned experimental apparatus. Instead, a dumped beam is deflected and diffused away from the normal beam line by special magnets, after which it travels half a mile before landing in a special graphite “dump block.” The graphite material is especially good at spreading the energy and not melting in the process, despite reaching temperatures of 1,400 degrees Fahrenheit.«

Vsekakor zanimivo.

Blackout

Mira Grant, Blackout

»I’ve watched a few old DVDs that Alaric dug out of the room’s back closet. Most of them said “safely interacting with the woods” meant being respectful of the wildlife, and backing away slowly if you saw a bear. Personally, I think “safely interacting with the woods” means carrying a crossbow and a sniper rifle whenever you have to go out alone. I’ll never understand the pre-Rising generation… but sometimes I wish I could. It must have been nice to live in a world that didn’t constantly try to kill you.«

The Eternal Flame

Greg Egan, The Eternal Flame

»In the end, everything in the cosmos wanted to make light and blow itself to pieces. The only thing that differed was the time scale, set by the number of photons required to make the leap from solidity to chaos.«

Zanimivo.

The Information: A History, a Theory, a Flood

James Gleick, The Information: A History, a Theory, a Flood

»For every village and every tribe, the drum language began with the spoken word and shed the consonants and vowels. That was a lot to lose. The remaining information stream would be riddled with ambiguity. A double stroke on the high-tone lip of the drum [– –] matched the tonal pattern of the Kele word for father, sango, but naturally it could just as well be songe, the moon; koko, fowl; fele, a species of fish; or any other word of two high tones. Even the limited dictionary of the missionaries at Yakusu contained 130 such words. Having reduced spoken words, in all their sonic richness, to such a minimal code, how could the drums distinguish them? The answer lay partly in stress and timing, but these could not compensate for the lack of consonants and vowels. Thus, Carrington discovered, a drummer would invariably add “a little phrase” to each short word. Songe, the moon, is rendered as songe li tange la manga—“the moon looks down at the earth.” Koko, the fowl, is rendered koko olongo la bokiokio—“the fowl, the little one that says kiokio.” The extra drumbeats, far from being extraneous, provide context. Every ambiguous word begins in a cloud of possible alternative interpretations; then the unwanted possibilities evaporate. This takes place below the level of consciousness. Listeners are hearing only staccato drum tones, low and high, but in effect they “hear” the missing consonants and vowels, too. For that matter, they hear whole phrases, not individual words. «
